Nominations for 2022 Flag Officers
Background
As required in the BSC Bylaws, the 2021 Executive Committee named a Nominating Committee to manage the 2022 Flag Officer election process.
The consensus goal of this year’s Nominating Committee was to propose a slate of club Flag Officers that will be good at their roles, that will work well with each other, and that want to hold the positions (at least after sufficient arm twisting). This will be a rebuilding year and the committee looked for a team that can work over the winter to set a vision for the club’s next year and beyond.
As allowed by the bylaws, the Nominating Committee slate is presented first for an up/down vote. If the slate is not approved by the membership, nominations from the membership will be taken for an office-by-office election. This means that floor nominations will not be used if the slate is approved.
The officers to be selected are:
· Commodore – presiding officer of Club and Executive Committee meetings and is the Registered Agent for the club.
· Vice Commodore – discharges duties of Commodore when Commodore is absent and acts as Fleet Captain of racing.
· Rear Commodore – discharges duties of Commodore when Commodore and Vice Commodore are absent and acts as Fleet Captain of social and cruising events.
· Treasurer – receives, accounts for, and disburses club funds at the direction of the Executive Committee.
· Secretary – manages day-to-day operations of the club and is a key official (think Secretary of State) on official club incorporation documents.
These elected officers have, since the formation of the club, served as the Executive Committee as described in the club bylaws.

Recommendations and Nominations Are Open
The BSC Nominating Committee is formally receiving recommendations and nominations for Flag Officers for the 2022 club year. Please email recommendations and nominations to one of the nominating committee members.
Recommendations and Nominations
To avoid confusion, we would like to distinguish between a recommendation and a nomination.
A recommendation is exactly that - your opinion about "who would be good for what". You don't need that person's permission to recommend them. You are helping the nominating committee think of everyone that ought to be considered for the various offices. Recommendations won't necessarily appear on the ballot.
A nomination is a formal request to appear on the election ballot for a particular office. A nomination must come from the candidate and shall be endorsed by at least two more members in good standing. Nominations will be received from now until the annual meeting.
The Nominating Committee Slate
The consensus goal of this year’s nominating committee is to propose a slate of club Flag Officers that will be good at their roles, that will work well with each other, and that want to hold the positions (at least after sufficient arm twisting). This will be a rebuilding year and the committee is looking for a team that can work over the winter to set a vision for the club’s next year and beyond.
As allowed by the bylaws, the nominating committee slate will be presented first for an up/down vote at the annual meeting. If the slate is not approved by the membership, nominations from the membership will be taken for an office-by-office election. This means that nominations will not be used if the slate is approved.

Nominating Committee Update
The membership list given to the BSC nominating committee has 64 names that were active in the previous season, 28 paid 2021 members, and 11 members that have responded to earlier NomCom emails (not all paid 2021 members, but who's counting).
If you want to participate in the 2022 officer election, please pay your 2021 dues. Somehow, 2021 memberships will be extended for the 2022 season, so go ahead and pay now. :)
If you want to receive notices by email, please dig the kickoff message out of your spam folder and reply to it. The subject was "Bayside Sailing Club 2022 officer nominations are open" and it was sent on 11/17.

Officer Elections Announcement
Members of Bayside Sailing Club,
We have come to the end of a strange and stressful year, with not nearly enough sailing. However, life goes on and it is time to lay the groundwork for our club’s next year. The first step in that process is the selection of club officers for the 2022 season.
The selection process starts with the outgoing Executive Committee naming a three-member Nominating Committee. This committee is:
Richard Clark (214-437-5764 text, richard@r-d-clark.com)
George Conklin (TBD)
Phil McBride (214-207-4906 text, philipjmcb@gmail.com)
This communication starts the official clock for a (minimum) twenty-five-day period before the club annual meeting and the window for nominations from club members. The actual election will be held at the club’s annual meeting – stand by for exact location and date.
Please acknowledge this notice by emailing Richard Clark to confirm your email address.
All nominating committee communications will be:
· posted to the club website (https://www.baysidesailing.club/)
· posted to the private club Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/BaysideSailingClubMembers)
· emailed directly to your email addresses of record.
If you did not receive this by email, please contact the nominating committee with your latest email address.
